Ian M Thompson has 30 years’ experience in senior insurance leadership positions. His career to-date has spanned risk engineering, risk management, strategy development, strategic innovation, transformation, as well as operational and technical delivery roles.

Ian, who had previously spent 19 years with the multinational insurer RSA, joined Zurich Insurance Plc in 2012 as European Chief Claims Officer (CCO) based in Dublin, Ireland. In 2014 he was appointed CCO for the newly formed Europe Middle east & Africa Region.

Ian was appointed Zurich Insurance Company Ltd Group CCO in October 2018. He is now accountable for ensuring the delivery of claims services to 7.5m Zurich customers through 8,500 claims professionals across five continents with annual claims spend of c. USD20bn.

He has served on the Board of Thatcham UK, Zuritel SA, Italy, and as Chairperson of Zurich Sigorta, Turkey. He is currently a Board Director of Zurich Santander Insurance America. Ian is a member of the Zurich Insurance Company Leadership Team.

Ian holds a BSc (Hons) in Earth Science from Kingston University, UK, a MSc in Environmental Impact Assessment from Brighton University, UK. He has attended executive leadership development programs at CEDEP, France and Harvard University, USA.

Outside work, as well as spending time with his family, he enjoys watching live sport, walking, and is also learning to sail, kayak and paddleboard.
