The metaverse has rapidly become a topic of global conversation in the past year, with many speculating about the cross-industry impact of its evolution. While some insurers are keeping a watchful eye, thinking of how best to innovate in order to make the most of the metaverse’s expansion, others remain skeptical. With there often being a lack of clarity around the tangible value that the metaverse will offer the insurance industry, it probes the question: why should we care? I recently had the chance to sit down with Evangelos Avramakis, Head of Digital Ecosystems and R&D at Swiss Re, to help me answer this question, and to demystify the part that the metaverse will play in the future of the insurance industry.
