Marcin Detyniecki

Group Chief Data Scientist, AXA

Marcin Detyniecki is Group Chief Data Scientist and Head of R&D at AXA. He leads innovation projects – with a strong focus on artificial intelligence – in conjunction with AXA’s operational business entities while providing strong technical insights on machine learning in a big data environment.

Marcin also plays a key role in animating the data science professional family in the group, providing training, sourcing strategies, career paths design and knowledge sharing means.

Currently, his R&D team focuses on humanizing Artificial Intelligence to foster technology adoption. The research work, published in top peer-reviewed conferences, addresses challenges such asbringing transparency to black box models, or developing fair and regulated machine learning, by design.

Marcin Detyniecki studied mathematics, physics and computer science at the University Pierre and Marie Curie (UPMC) in Paris. In 2000 he obtained his Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence from the same university. Between 2001 and 2014, he was a research scientist of the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). He has been researcher at the University of California at Berkeley and at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). Today, he is honorary professor at the Polish Academy of Science (IBS PAN) and associate researcher at the computer science laboratory LIP6 of Sorbonne University. Prof. Detyniecki has over 100 publications in academic journals and conference proceedings.
