Amy Archer leads our Custom Care operation, as well as our Property and Casualty claim operation. The purview of her role includes leadership of approximately 525 employees, annual oversight for 100,000 auto, homeowner and catastrophe claims, and yearly responsibilities for 530,000 customer and agency transactions on all products.
She joined Horace Mann in September 2018 in the Dallas operation. Since becoming part of the Horace Mann leadership team, Amy has maintained strong operational results and made numerous contributions. Most notably, her work on the Camp Fire subrogation recovery efforts had a significant financial impact for Horace Mann and our reinsurers. Currently, she is leading our Distinctive Service enterprise initiative, which is a transformational organizational change with a powerful approach focused on the voices of our Customers, Agents and Employees.
Amy is a North Carolina native. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The following year, she earned her Master of Education in Education Psychology at UNC as well. Amy continued her education, achieving a Juris Doctorate at Campbell University School of Law in Raleigh NC. She is an active member of the North Carolina State Bar.
Amy’s professional career moved her many times, with leadership experience in North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Illinois, Florida, Maryland, and Texas. North Carolina will always be home.
Prior to joining Horace Mann, Amy’s career included a myriad of leadership and industry experience from 24 years with State Farm Insurance. She has extensive experience leading multiple levels of leadership in both auto, property and catastrophe claims. She began her career on the front lines as a litigation claim representative. Amy quickly escalated into leadership positions in Injury, Auto Damage, PIP, SIU/MCIU and Catastrophe with increasing responsibilities across the country. Her leadership experience includes Call Center start-up work, expansive change leadership roles and significant project implementation. She completed numerous executive development experiences and worked with the Florida Senate to draft HB119 for PIP coverage. Along the way, she led multiple process improvement initiatives. She is passionate about developing leaders, creating dynamic relationships with employees, dazzling customers, and mentoring others for career guidance.
From a personal standpoint, Amy is newly married! She, and her husband, Doug, enjoy exploring new places, traveling, boating and outdoor activities – especially walking. During the pandemic, they purchased a “glamper” and have been enjoying state parks across the East Coast. She also spends time reading, cooking, and gardening. Amy is an animal lover and avid birder. She attracts more than 20 varieties to her backyard.
